 New Life For My Old PianoMay 12, 2010

They shipped the item out right away and I got it a couple days after ordering. Fast.
The product gave the little Wurlitzer spinet piano I grew up with a new life. It sat for the last four decades at my parents house neglected.
When they moved to a retirment home it came back to me. I put off tuning it for awhile as it was a bit hard to look at.
I finally got around to it and the kit changed the instrument into one I no longer recognize. It sounds so beautiful now that it brings tears to my eyes. Mom would surely have felt the same.
I was very careful to bring the piano up in stages to reduce shock. The kit worked just fine combined with an iPhone app, (cleartune), and was just what I needed. Since the piano needs several touch-ups, doing it myself was the only way to go.
I'm sure glad I did.

This is my first attempt at tuning a piano and the kit seems to work fine. It was able to get the job done. I would say it is pretty good for the price.

My first ever attempt at tuning a piano (always wanted to learn how to) was with our baby grand Wurlitzer. The hammer/wrench fit very well on the tuning pins (too tight and you could change the tune when wiggling to remove it from the pin, too loose and you could round out the pin/tool). The angle of the head , which is fixed, was excellent for the majority of the center pins but would have worked better for the end pins had there been some flex designed into the tool. The rubber wedges worked like a charm isolating each string as needed. Am very pleased with the tool kit's performance and value -- not "extremely" because of the lack of flex on the tool head. Am also going to fit and keep the kit in a case for safe keeping. Will wrap the hammer's handle with non-slip material and to also increase it's diameter for ease and comfort of handling (like installing a steering wheel cover on your car). Will wrap the hammer's head with a rubber/silicon tube to minimize "banging" against other pins which could also change the string's tune.

The tuning wrench is well built, and looks like it should last a lifetime as long as it is treated well. The rubber mutes are also good, and both the wrench and mutes look just like the professional ones I have seen in the past.
This kit is not enough to do repair work, but that was not my intention. I just wanted to tune my piano. When I found out what a professional tuner was going to charge, I more than paid for the cost of this tool kit in it's first use. I may not be a professional, but I have been involved in music most of my life, and I understand how to tune a piano. My wife is a violin and piano player, and between her and I, this has not been too hard of a task.
If you are tone deaf, forget about attempting this task, pay the professional. You definitely have to have a good musical ear to hear what you are doing, or you will never be able to get it right.

This was my first attempt at tuning a piano and this kit allowed me to do it for less than the cost of a professional tuning.
The tuning hammer fit lose enough over the square pins to allow me to easily remove it from pins after tuning the strings.
The mutes aren't anything special but they work.
I had no problems on the upper register of the baby grand i was tuning. (some sites were saying you need a special head attachment for tuning the upper register)
